Encontrar una sitcom tan completa como 'How I Met Your Mother' es complicado. Más allá de cumplir con su función vital de entretener a la audiencia, los que habéis visto la serie estaréis de acuerdo conmigo cuando digo que no solo nos hemos reído, sino que nos hemos emocionado, sorprendido y aprendido. Esta sitcom lo tiene todo y el vestuario de los protagonistas y extras ha estado, desde el primer capítulo hasta el último, más que a la altura de las circunstancias.
Finding a sitcom as complete as 'How I Met Your Mother' is complicated. Beyond fulfilling its vital function of entertaining the audience, those of you who have seen the series will agree with me when I say that not only have we laughed, but we have been moved, surprised and, above all, we have learned a lot. This sitcom has it all and the outfits of the main characters and extras have been, from the first episode to the last, more than up to the task.

Para saber un poco más sobre todas estas elecciones, he tenido el placer de hablar con Reiko Schoenfeld la diseñadora de vestuario de la séptima a la última temporada de la serie.
How can we think of 'How I Met Your Mother' without remembering Ted (Josh Radnor), Marshall (Jason Segel), Lily (Alyson Hannigan), Robin (Cobie Smulders), and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) in those wonderful and funny Halloween costumes, these party dresses or Robin's stunning wedding dress. To find out a little more about all these choices, I had the pleasure of talking to Reiko Schoenfeld, the costume designer from the seventh to the last season of the series.

Although Reiko Schoenfeld was in charge of the wardrobe from the seventh season onwards, she was in the wardrobe department from the very first episode. 'How I Met Your Mother' nos conquistó desde el primer capítulo a muchos de nosotros pero, ¿cómo recuerda Reiko esta experiencia? La diseñadora de vestuario nos lo cuenta:
"Tuve la suerte de ser parte de esta serie desde el episodio piloto. Este programa fue una extensión de mi familia. Fue de lejos el mejor, más gratificante, amoroso y enriquecedor entorno en el que he trabajado y realmente adoro a todos los involucrados. Hasta el día de hoy, sigo trabajando con muchas de las mismas personas y todavía soy amiga de algunos miembros del elenco. Fueron hermosos 10 años los que tuvimos juntos y siempre estaré agradecida y apreciaré los recuerdos vividos."
From the first episode 'How I Met Your Mother''won many of us over, but how does Reiko remember the experience? The costume designer tells us:" I was fortunate to be a part of this series since the pilot episode. This show was an extension of family to me. It was by far the single best, most rewarding, most loving, most nurturing environment I have ever worked in and I truly adore every one involved. To this day, I still work with a lot of the same people and I still am friends with some of the cast. It was a beautiful 10 years we had together and I will forever be thankful and appreciative of the memories".

Son muchos los vestidos que nos han enamorado episodio tras episodio. Sobre todo, en las últimas temporadas de la serie, hemos visto a Lily y Robin enfundadas en maravillosos trajes por los que hubiésemos hecho arriesgados pactos con el diablo para poder tenerlos colgados en nuestros armarios: "Me encantó el vestido morado con estampado de leopardo de Dolce and Gabbana que usó Robin para su baile sorpresa con Barney en la boda de una amiga. Elegí ese vestido específicamente por la tela para que fluyera mientras ella bailaba. ¡El personaje de Lily también vistió a Dolce y Gabbana en esa misma boda!", nos confiesa Reiko.
We have fallen in love with many dresses episode after episode. Especially, in the last few seasons of the series, we have seen Lily and Robin wrapped up in wonderful outfits for which we would have made risky pacts with the devil to be able to have them hanging in our closets: "I loved the purple Dolce and Gabbana leopard print dress that Robin wore for her surprise dance number with Barney at a friends wedding. I specifically picked that dress because of the fabric so that it would flow as she danced around. Lily’s character actually also wore Dolce and Gabbana to that same wedding!", Reiko confesses.

Y hablando de vestidos espectaculares, hay uno que sobresale de los demás: el vestido de boda de Robin. Corte sirena, transparencias, manga francesa y un cinturón de pedrería que, sin duda alguna, le daba al vestido ese toque especial que Robin se merecía en su gran día. Todos estaréis de acuerdo en que el vestido le quedaba como anillo al dedo pero, ¿cuál fue la inspiración para este vestido? Atentos a la respuesta de Reiko: "¡Qué gran pregunta! Bueno, nuestra talentosa directora, Pam Fryman, me había compartido su visión de cómo iba a filmar la revelación de que efectivamente era Robin la del vestido. Y dado que la revelación fue un primer plano, quería un vestido que no fuera sin tirantes, quería detalles hermosos en los hombros y el corpiño. Monique Lhuillier hace los vestidos más agraciados, elegantes y atemporales, en mi humilde opinión, así que no había duda de que la iba a utilizar como diseñadora. Cobie Smulders, quien interpretó a Robin, tenía un físico tan hermoso que quería un vestido que ejemplificara sus curvas de una manera elegante. El hermoso cinturón de cuentas de Monique Lhuillier fue el toque perfecto para ceñir la cintura".
And talking about spectacular dresses, there is one that stands out from the rest: Robin's wedding dress. Mermaid cut, transparencies, french sleeves, and a beaded belt that undoubtedly gave the dress that special touch that Robin deserved on her big day. You will all agree that the dress fit her like a glove, but what was the inspiration for this dress? Stay tuned for Reiko's answer: "What a great question!! Well, our talented director, Pam Fryman, had shared with me her vision of how she was going to shoot the reveal that it was indeed Robin in the gown. And since the reveal was a close up, I wanted a dress that was not strapless, I wanted gorgeous detail on the shoulders and bodice. Monique Lhuillier makes the most graceful, elegant, timeless gowns, in my humble opinion, so there was no question I was going to use her as a designer. Cobie Smulders, who played Robin, had such a beautiful physic, I wanted a dress that exemplified her curves in a classy way. The beautiful beaded belt from Monique Lhuillier was the perfect touch to cinch in the waist".

Más allá de increíbles vestidos, hay unos atuendos muy característicos e importantes para la trama en esta sitcom. Sí, evidentemente me estoy refiriendo a los disfraces de Halloween (que no son pocos): "¡Los episodios de Halloween son siempre divertidos y muy duros! Siempre digo que todo es un esfuerzo en equipo, así que me aseguro de preguntar siempre a los productores, escritores y a nuestro director si tienen ideas o deseos que yo pueda hacer realidad. Dicho esto, mi favorito tendría que ser ¡¡Slutty Pumpkin!! Pasó tanto tiempo para revelar quién era ... ¡y luego descubrimos que Katie Holmes era quién la interpretaba! Katie era la actriz más dulce, respetuosa y amable, y estaba muy emocionada de ser parte de un disfraz tan legendario para el espectáculo", nos explica la diseñadora de vestuario.
Beyond amazing dresses, there are some very characteristic and plot-important outfits in this sitcom. Yes, I'm obviously referring to the Halloween costumes (and they are not few): "Halloween episodes are always fun and very tough!!!!! I am a believer that everything is a team effort so I make sure to always ask the producers, writers, and our director if they have ideas or desires that I could bring to fruition. That being said, my favorite would have to be the Slutty Pumpkin!!! It was such a long time coming to reveal who she was... and then we come to find out she is played by Katie Holmes!! Katie was the absolute sweetest, most respectful, and kind actress and was so excited to be a part of such a legendary costume for the show!!", the costume designer explains.

La última temporada nos tenía guardadas muchas sorpresas y, para qué mentir, alguna que otra lágrima. Sin hacer mucho spoiler para los que no la hayáis terminado, en el último episodio de la serie vemos cómo hay un salto en el tiempo y nos muestran a los protagonistas en una fase de sus vidas mucho más madura. ¿Cómo fue representar esa evolución en el vestuario de cada uno de ellos? Reiko nos lo explica: "¡Otra gran pregunta! Tuvimos muchas charlas sobre el cabello y el maquillaje de nuestros actores porque, aunque era crucial mostrar un salto en el tiempo, ¡quién sabe cómo envejecerían! En cuanto a su ropa, quería seguir con su estilo característico, pero solo hacerlo más maduro y reflejar dónde estaban sus vidas en ese momento. Por ejemplo, Lily era la esposa de un hombre prestigioso (Marshall), por lo que su guardarropa reflejaba un estilo sofisticado y exclusivo".
The last season had a lot of surprises in store for us and, to be honest, a few tears. Without making too much spoiler for those of you who haven't finished it, in the last episode of the series we see a time jump, and they show us the main characters in a much more mature phase of their lives. What was it like to represent that evolution in the wardrobe of each of them? Reiko explains: "Another great question!! We had lots of discussions regarding hair and make up for our actors because although it was crucial to show a time jump, who knows how they would actually age!!! As far as their clothing went, I wanted to stick with their signature style, but just make it more mature, and reflect where their lives were at the time. For example, Lily was a wife of a prestigious man ( Marshall), so her wardrobe reflected an upscale, sophisticated style".

Un paraguas amarillo y una historia de amor. Así podríamos resumir el aliciente principal de 'How I Met Your Mother', pero sería injusto para todos esos elementos y subtramas que han conseguido tenernos enganchados desde el primer episodio hasta el último. Las aventuras, experiencias y anécdotas que Ted, Marshall, Lily, Robin y Barney han vivido en el MacLaren's serán un recuerdo muy difícil de olvidar, igual que cuando descubrimos que Katie Holmes era la calabaza que Ted llevaba años esperando o la cara de Barney cuando ve a Robin con ese increíble vestido de novia. Estas escenas quedarán por siempre en nuestras memorias, junto con un vestuario excepcional que ha sido la guinda del pastel para coronar a una serie que siempre será legend- (espera un momento) -daria.
A yellow umbrella and a love story. That's how we could summarize the main attraction of 'How I Met Your Mother', but it would be unfair to all those elements ,and subplots that have managed to keep us hooked from the first episode to the last. The adventures, experiences, and anecdotes that Ted, Marshall, Lily, Robin and Barney have lived at MacLaren's will be a very difficult memory to forget, just like when we discovered that Katie Holmes was the 'slutty pumpkin' that Ted had been waiting for years or Barney's face when he sees Robin in that amazing wedding dress. These scenes will remain forever in our memories, along with an exceptional wardrobe that has been the icing on the cake to crown a series that will always be legen- (wait for it) -dary.
